Research

My project is to identify and map QTL and genes conferring resistance to Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) and powdery mildew, which both are major fungal diseases in wheat growing areas worldwide, including the state of North Carolina. The primary objectives of this project are to utilize molecular markers to 1) detect and validate QTL conferring resistance to FHB in two genetically connected populations and, 2) identify and map powdery mildew resistance genes introgressed from wild relatives of wheat (Aegilops sharonensis and Aegilops speltoides).
