Research
Rose rosette virus causes a debilitating disease in landscape roses that results in plant death and millions of dollars of economic damage each year. Currently, there are no known resistance mechanisms in wild or cultivated varieties. My project explores using CRISPR-Cas13a to introduce rose rosette resistance for existing elite cultivars and for use in breeding novel resistant cultivars.
