Mountain Crown

Hybrid plum tomato

Mountain Crown was bred for early maturity, improved fruit color, and increased lycopene content with strong disease resistance and good yield.

Key Characteristics

  • Good resistance to fruit cracking and weather check
  • Smooth blossom end scars
  • Fruit weight: 116 g (average)
  • Shape: cylindrical
  • Firmness: very firm

Disease Resistance

Mountain Crown is resistant to:

  • Fusarium wilt
  • Verticillium wilt
  • Late blight
  • Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV)
  • Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV)

Yield

Mountain Crown was equivalent to Plum Regal in total yield (102 ton/ha), marketable yield (73 ton/ha), marketable (%), and fruit size (116 g/fruit). However, it was higher in early yield (first three harvests), indicating that it matures earlier than Plum Regal. Results from replicated trials indicated that the yield performance of Mountain Crown is highly stable in North Carolina and equivalent to other widely grown plum hybrids.

Cultivar Development

Mountain Crown is an F1 hybrid of NC 30P x NC 1 Plum.
