Mountain Bebe
Hybrid grape tomato
Mountain Bebe is a hybrid grape tomato with dark red fruit. It was one of the best-performing tomatoes in field trials for marketable yield and one of the most preferred tomatoes by growers and seed companies.
Key Characteristics
- Total soluble solids (TSS): 6.3%
- Resistant to fruit cracking and bursting
- Growth habit: indeterminate, vigorous
- Average yield: 1,968 (lb B/A)
- Fruit weight: 10.5 g (average)
- Shape: long ovate
- Flavor: Excellent, very sweet with crisp texture
Disease Resistance
Mountain Bebe is the first known F1 hybrid grape tomato cultivar to combine several important disease resistances including:
- Late blight
- Fusarium wilt race 2 and 3
- Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV)
The combined disease resistances allow organic growers to manage more economically important soil-borne and foliar diseases with limited approved chemical pesticides to control important diseases, especially late blight.
Cultivar Development
Mountain Bebe (tested as NC10259) is the F1 hybrid grape tomato resulting from the cross of NC 7 Grape x NC 8 Grape breeding lines.
