Cultivar Development

NC 938 is produced by pollinating female parental line Cms L06-1074-1 with pollen produced by male parent OX2047. The pollen parent, OX2047, is an inbred line derived from a cross between the fertile inbred lines Speight 210 and OX7038, the latter being an NC State breeding line of unknown pedigree developed by Dr. Verne Sisson. The fertile version of the female parent, L06-1074-1, is an inbred line derived from a cross between commercially available flue-cured inbred cultivar K346 and NC State breeding line DH03B-55-21.
