Soybean - New Release

USDA-N7007 is a conventional maturity group (MG) VII soybean germplasm with white flowers, grey pubescence, tan pod walls and yellow seeds with light brown hilum. It has a determinate growth habit with good resistance to lodging. USDA-N7007 is a high-yielding high-protein germplasm derived from the backcross of wild soybean (PI 366122) to small-seeded recurrent parent, USDA cultivar N7103. This release is 25% wild soybean based on pedigree, and 11% based on DNA analysis using 2554 single nucleotide polymorphic (SNP) markers. USDA-N7007 is resistant to southern root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) and stem canker (Diaporthe aspalathi). USDA-N7007 is the first U.S. soybean release clearly demonstrating that the wild soybean genome can enhance both seed protein and seed yield.

USDA-N7007 (right) is derived from wild soybean PI 366122 (left). Wild soybean has been shown to contain many useful traits, but incorporating those traits into an agronomically desirable cultivar was no easy task.
