Soybeans

The USDA-ARS Soybean Breeding and Genetics Programs, in conjunction with NC State, aim to increase genetic diversity and yield while enhancing drought, flood and heat tolerance. Major objectives are to increase protein content while maintaining yield and oil levels and to increase oil content while maintaining protein levels. The team is also developing high-yielding lines with high oleic acid content (>75%) and low linolenic acid content (<3%). Additionally, the program is working on creating germplasm with low phytate levels. Lines are adapted to growing conditions in NC and other states in the Southeastern U.S.

A conventional maturity group (MG) VII soybean germplasm with good resistance to lodging, southern root-knot nematode and stem canker. It is the first U.S. soybean release clearly demonstrating that the wild soybean genome can enhance both seed protein and seed yield.

A conventional maturity group (MG) VII soybean with improved performance under drought stress, exotic parentage (37.5%), and high yield potential. It traces 12.5% of its parentage from Japan and 25% from South Korea. It also shows good resistance to lodging.

A high-yielding, maturity group (MG) VII conventional soybean cultivar adapted to the Southeastern U.S. with resistance to soybean cyst nematode (races 1, 2, and 14) plus moderate resistance to races 4 and 5, and partial resistant to race 3.
