Von Blackberry

NC State's first thornless blackberry

Von is a floricane fruiting blackberry with high yield, late harvest season, excellent post-harvest attributes, and small seed size. It offers growers a new cultivar for fruit production in the late harvest season in the southern United States. Von is recommended for the Coastal Plain and Piedmont regions of North Carolina and adjacent states.

Fruit is medium to large size, averaging about 6.6 grams. Berries are sweet, have small seeds and low acidity with 9.4% sugar content.

Von produces high yields of berries for a duration of six weeks. The fruit is consistent from year to year. The average fruit yields per plant were around 26 pounds once the vine reached full maturity. Von is cold hardy down to -12 degrees and shows better tolerance to wet conditions than other varieties.

Disease Resistance

Strongly disease resistant to orange rust, fruit anthracnose, and double blossom/rosette.

US Patent: #27,299
