150+ inbred lines with enhanced genetic diversity

The Maize Breeding and Genetics Program is a collaboration between North Carolina State University and USDA-ARS. Since 1980, more than 150 maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines have been developed and released for improved agronomic performance with an emphasis on increasing maize genetic diversity.

The Maize Breeding and Genetics Program develops inbred lines with the following traits:

  • Novel genetic backgrounds: Southern non-stiff stalk, Southern-adapted Stiff Stalk, and from 0 to 100% tropical-derived
  • Foliar disease resistance
  • High yield potential for North Carolina environments in hybrid combinations
